Together with the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Freiburg, we are seeking a master student to advance the design and development of the microfluidic component of a point-of-care test for viral diseases as part of their master’s thesis.
Your Tasks
- Familiarization with the subject area, particularly centrifugal microfluidics
- Microfluidic design: CAD and simulation of a microfluidic network on a centrifugal microfluidic cartridge (using SolidWorks and MATLAB Simulink)
- Design validation and testing of the cartridges in the laboratory
- Documentation and evaluation of the results
- Discussion of the results and next steps with your supervisor
- Participation in regular meetings with the project team
What You Bring
- Currently pursuing a master’s degree in an engineering field within a STEM subject (e.g., Microsystems Engineering, Sustainable Systems Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable programs)
- Basic knowledge of microsystems engineering
- Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary fields and interest in medical technology
- Reliable, independent, team-oriented, and proactive work style
- Creativity and initiative are your strengths
- Very good English language skills, good German is a plus
