Together with the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Freiburg, we are seeking a master student to advance the design and development of the microfluidic component of a point-of-care test for viral diseases as part of their master’s thesis.


Your Tasks

  • Familiarization with the subject area, particularly centrifugal microfluidics
  • Microfluidic design: CAD and simulation of a microfluidic network on a centrifugal microfluidic cartridge (using SolidWorks and MATLAB Simulink)
  • Design validation and testing of the cartridges in the laboratory
  • Documentation and evaluation of the results
  • Discussion of the results and next steps with your supervisor
  • Participation in regular meetings with the project team


What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in an engineering field within a STEM subject (e.g., Microsystems Engineering, Sustainable Systems Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable programs)
  • Basic knowledge of microsystems engineering
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary fields and interest in medical technology
  • Reliable, independent, team-oriented, and proactive work style
  • Creativity and initiative are your strengths
  • Very good English language skills, good German is a plus
